To all U10 parents and players,

The MJRU are holding the first trial to begin the process of selecting the 2017 U10 MJRU representative development squad. The first trial will be at Denzil Joyce Oval home of Harbord Harlequins at 2pm on the 21st May.

The trial will consist of full contact rugby games. Please bring your full rugby kit including head gear mouth guards etc.

Boys will be sorted into teams and the process will take several hours.

Below is a brief and expectations of the development squad.

2017 U10 MJRU Development Squad

The development squad concept was adopted by NSWRU in 2005

After the first year and for 2006 MJRU adopted the following policy re selection and management of its U10 development squads. The MJRU development squad will consist of 30-36 players who will form the basis of two teams, the blue team and the red team.

The blue team will be the players considered the first choice side containing at the time of selection the best performed players in the U10 age group from the five MJRU village clubs.

The red team will be the second team consisting of the next best performed players of the U10 age group with an emphasis on potential and attitude.

Teams for the gala day are graded in 2017 and the draw will reflect this.

All players will be eligible to interchange between the two squads based on performance and ability during the trial period. The squad of 30-36 players will train and socialise together and be considered and treated as a squad not as individual teams. Only when on the playing field involved in a game will they be treated as individual teams.

The selected squad will be required to train once a week in the lead up to the invitational gala day on Sunday the 16th July. There will be three or four trial matches throughout June and early July in the lead up to this weekend at which the selected players will be required to attend. Whilst all scores are kept (particularly by the boys) there is no competition as such and the purpose of this squad is preparation for the State Championships which are held from the age group of U12 onwards.
