Congratulations to former Manly Roos players Rory O’Connor and Lalakai Foketi on their selections in the Australian Under 20 team to participate in the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship in Auckland.
Rory, who is studying Architecture at Sydney University, plays loosehead prop (No1) and Lalakai, who is contracted with the Melbourne Rebels, plays outside centre (No13), played their junior club rugby with the Roos before moving on to the Marlins Colts.
The Australian U20 team was selected after games against Samoa, following the National Under 20 Championship.
On learning of the selections of Rory and Lalakai, Roos president Stew Davies said “This is absolutely fantastic news for these boys and the Roos. Both of them are wonderful kids who have worked very hard and deserve their success. Is there any other junior club in Australia that can claim two home grown players in a national team?”
The IRB JWC commences with Australia playing Argentina on 2 June. The other teams in the Australian pool are England and Italy.
The Roos wish Rory and Lalakai every success at the Championship and congratulate them on their achievement.
