SMH Article – Breakout year puts Hooper in driving seat

January 15th, 2013

A snippet from the The Sydney Morning Herald article (January 12, 2013)  …

Michael Hooper

Michael Hooper brings his huge workrate at No.7 to the Waratahs this season

”…..Wallabies legend George Smith, 32, says Hooper ”always had natural footballing instincts”. Smith, now playing for the Suntory Sungoliaths in Japan, was Hooper’s mentor when he arrived at the Brumbies. But even Smith, who set new standards of excellence as a No.7 in a career that included 110 Tests and 120 Super games, has been surprised by how rapidly Hooper has developed into a challenger to Wallabies captain David Pocock for the No. 7 jersey.

While generations apart and having gone to different schools – Hooper to Saint Pius College and Smith to Cromer High School – their rugby journeys have followed similar paths to similar outcomes. Congratulations U10 Reds and Whites

September 17th, 2012

Our premiers for 2012, to be celebrated at the Presentation Day.  Thanks to all the U14s and others who helped at Keirle Park for the U10s Grand Final day – our first at Keirle Park. Special mention also to the gallant U13 Reds, who also made the Grand Final, but couldn’t quite bring home the flag.

Presentation Day – Sat 22nd September

September 17th, 2012

The magnificent 50th anniversary season for the Roos comes to an end this Saturday at Keirle Park.

Club presentations are at 5pm, with Minis running from 4pm beforehand, and Juniors running afterwards. Full details on our Events page here, or contact your team or age manager. A sausage sandwich and drink for the kids, and the bar and BBQ will be on for adults. See you there!

Grand Final day for the Roos !

August 31st, 2012

For the first time, Keirle Park is hosting SJRU Grand Finals in 2012, with the Under 10 competition wrapping up this Sunday, starting at 9am. The Roos U14s are running the day, with support from the Roos Committee.

The good news is that we have two Roos teams playing their Grand Final at home – the U10 Whites up against Hornsby at 10.40pm, and the U10 Reds up against Killara West Pymble at 12.20pm.

Please go down and support the U10s and the U14s if you can. It will be a carnival atmosphere at Keirle Park!

Further field, the U13 Reds go up against Dural at 10am at Hunters Hill.

Congratulations Roos for teams for making their Cup Grand Final, and good luck Sunday!

Congratulations also to all Roos teams who made the Semi Finals, and to the U11Cs who took out their Plate 22-5 against Newport.

Beware Parents Unleashed!

August 6th, 2012

If you went to the Skiff CLub last Friday night, you know how good it was. If you didn’t there’s always next year! Thanks to Andrew Black and the U11-13s for organising it, and to Pete Green and the Independents for rocking the house down.

New Website launched

August 6th, 2012

As you can see, the new Roos website is now up and running. There is only one club website now, faster to load through your browser, with all information easier to find. Each age group has its own page, which can be linked to your Facebook pages if you wish. Each age group should have a volunteer to run their own page. Any volunteers to help update the club website (now that it is almost complete ;-), please contact secretary@roosrugby.com.au. Same for any suggestions or comments.
